I’ve been trying to pray through something that honestly feels heavier than I can carry. Over the last year my family has had one hard thing after another: job instability, tension at home, and a close friend who’s really struggling (and I don’t always know how to help). I keep hearing “God has a plan,” but in the moment it can feel like God is silent.
I’m not asking for a perfect philosophical answer—I’m trying to understand as a Catholic: why would a loving God allow suffering at all? Is it punishment? A test? Just the result of living in a broken world? And how do you keep trusting when the pain keeps coming?
If anyone has Scripture, Church teaching, or even personal experience, I’d really appreciate it. I want to believe, but some days I’m tired and confused.
