I keep hearing the phrase “spiritual warfare” in Catholic podcasts and at my parish, but I’m not sure what it actually means in a healthy, Catholic way. Some people talk like everything is demons and attacks, while others act like it’s not a real thing at all.
For context: I’m a cradle Catholic who drifted for a while and came back recently. Since returning to Mass and confession, I’ve noticed temptations feel louder (anger, old habits, discouragement). I’m also trying to pray more, but sometimes I get anxious and start reading too much into every bad day.
So what does the Church actually mean by spiritual warfare? Is it mostly about temptation and sin, or is it also about the devil and demonic influence? And what are normal, everyday Catholic ways to approach it without getting paranoid?
