Hi everyone. I’m a lifelong Catholic but I realize I’m surprisingly fuzzy on what the Church actually teaches about angels (beyond “they exist”). I’ve been praying more lately and sometimes I hear people talk about guardian angels, archangels, “signs,” and even naming your angel. I also see a lot of angel content online that feels more New Age than Catholic.
I’d love a clear, Church-based explanation: What are angels, what do they do, what’s the difference between angels/archangels/cherubim/etc., and what is appropriate devotion vs. superstition? Also: is it okay to pray to your guardian angel, and are there things Catholics should avoid when it comes to angels? Thanks.
