Hi everyone. I’m a 26-year-old Catholic who came back to the Church more seriously in the last couple years. I help at my parish, go to Mass most days when I can, and lately I keep getting this quiet but persistent thought: “What if God is calling me to the priesthood?”
It’s not that I dislike relationships or family life—I’ve dated before and I can imagine being a husband and dad. But there’s also something that happens when I’m praying in adoration or when I’m serving at the altar or helping with RCIA: I feel a strange peace, like I’m where I’m supposed to be. Sometimes that’s followed by fear (like, am I just romanticizing the idea?) or guilt (like, am I wasting time if I don’t act?).
I also worry I might be confusing a love for the Church with an actual vocation. What are the real signs of a priestly vocation? And what are the “not signs” that people commonly mistake? Practical next steps would help too—spiritual direction, talking to a vocations director, discernment retreats, etc. Thank you.
