I’ve been Catholic my whole life, but lately I’m realizing I kind of “go through the motions” at Mass. I receive Holy Communion most Sundays, and I do believe it’s truly Jesus, but I’m not always prepared in a focused way.
Sometimes I’m rushing in with my kids, sometimes I’m distracted, and I’m not sure when I should go to Confession vs. when it’s okay to receive. I know about the one-hour fast, but beyond that: what are the best habits (prayers, examen, readings, etc.) to prepare well for Holy Communion—before, during, and after Mass? I’d love something realistic for a busy week, but also spiritually serious.
