I’m struggling with this question in a very real way. Over the past year my family has had a lot hit at once: job stress, a loved one drifting from the Church, and a constant sense of worry that I can’t quite “pray away.” I keep hearing at Mass and in Catholic books that suffering can unite us to Jesus and even make us holier, but honestly some days it just makes me tired and a little bitter.
I believe in God, and I’m trying to stay close to the sacraments, but I don’t always understand what I’m supposed to *do* with the pain. Do I offer it up? Do I ask for it to go away? Do I just endure?
If you’ve experienced this: how has suffering actually brought you closer to Christ in a practical, not-just-theory way? And how do you keep from feeling like God is distant when life hurts?
